Marchantcain at Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024

The start of July saw marchantcain returning to exhibit at the Goodwood Festival of Speed for the third consecutive year, having first visited in 2022.

Each year, the Festival of Speed is a fantastic opportunity for us to speak to many past, present or future clients as well as to show our exciting work to the many enthusiastic car fans who frequent the show. We were particularly impressed by the knowledge and interest shown by all of our visitors - young or old - and look forward to welcoming members of the Goodwood Road Racing club to our premises later this summer.

Best of all, we are able to see cars for which we have supplied parts taking on the high stakes hill climb. This year that included the Hennessy Venom, the Gordon Murray T50 and the fastest production car, the Czinger 21C.

Now that we have returned home, we are already looking forward to next year's event and hope to see many new (and familiar) faces there!

High Hopes for Labour Government

Despite the post- Brexit decline that has seen the UK manufacturing sector fall out of the top ten countries globally for the first time, there are high hopes that we will see extensive industry growth under the new Labour government.

Key pledges from their manifesto cover a new clean energy strategy, industrial strategy, transport strategy, and extensive improvements to education which are expected to boost UK manufacturing.

It is hoped that these measures, combined with clearer understanding of export regulations, will go some way to regaining lost revenue from international markets.

Improved education and opportunities for young people is also particularly important as part of a long-term strategy which is vital to sustaining a strong manufacturing industry in the future.

Undoubtedly, sustainable manufacturing and infrastructure is front and centre of upcoming changes and will see extensive investment over the coming years.

Other News

In order to encourage students to consider careers in engineering and manufacturing, Pam Cain and current intern Holly Wilson attended careers events at Shipston High School where they discussed (in co-operation with Lowrie from Constellium) what skills were needed to be successful and how students could set themselves up for future success. All the students benefitted from the opportunity to discover the range of opportunities currently available and were able to ask questions regardless of where their interests lay.

Furthermore, MarchantCain hosted the final of a robotwars competition, run by the wonderful Russ Smith and Nick Mort (Schools Engagement Leader at ARUP and Director of Futures Teaching Alliance respectively). 6 local schools were involved and all of the students showed great enthusiasm, team-working skills and sportsmanship, particularly when congratulating the winning robot - Mr Smile from The Hinckley School. Alongside the competition, our very own Rob Marchant gave each team a tour of the engineering facilities and showed the children some of our recent projects.

The goal was to give students a chance to see how their engineering talents and interest could be applied to a job in the future.

Safe to say a fun and educational day was had by all.

Finally, congratulations to Marchantcain staff members Pam Cain, Thomas Fowler, Olu Olatayo-Moses and Sergiusz Choinski on their recent successful IATF 16949 training and certification. They are now able to effectively audit our processes to ensure that we are consistently meeting the very highest industry standards.
